PTG Committees
2012 - 2013 School Year
During the year the North Grafton PTG will ask for volunteers to staff various committees on events (see below). If you can help out on any of these committees please contact a board member or submit the following volunteer form to the school. Thank you for your continued help and support.
Committee Descriptions:
AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT
The after school enrichment program offers themed programs to students 2-3 times per year after school. These programs are both academic and extra-curricular in nature and primarily run by parent volunteers. (Fall, Winter and Spring)
AVID
AVID stands for Accepting Valuing and Including Differences. Students learn about different abilities through this hands on classroom experience. (This is a 3 day program offered for each grade level.)
Book Fair
Offered twice a year (Fall and Spring), volunteers and chair people are responsible for setting-up book fair, scheduling volunteers, assembling displays and assisting the children during preview and shopping days. (September and March)
Box Tops
Organizing, collecting and submitting box tops throughout the year with volunteer help. As well as sending out appropriate fliers to students. (This can be done 100% from home on evenings and weekends. This program runs throughout the school year.)
Fun Fair
Our largest fundraiser of the year, Fun Fair is a carnival atmosphere held in mid- May not only for the students of our school but the entire community. There are four chairpersons that share the responsibilities of coordinating the efforts of the subcommittees. (Chair people needed to work with and an experienced chair, sub-committee chairs will be needed as well as hundreds of volunteer hours. Meetings and planning run January - May)
Fundraising Committee
A group of parents and board members that evaluate different types of fundraising ideas to meet the PTG’s budget needs. This committee will meet as needed throughout the school year and will meet more frequently toward the end of the year for next year’s planning. (Year Round)
Grant Writing
Seek out and complete appropriate grants to help meet growing educational and school needs. (Can be done at home throughout the school year.)
Holiday Gift Shop
Children shop for parents and / or guardians during December for the holidays. Chairpersons / Shoppers are responsible for shopping and ordering the gifts, coordinating volunteers for the gift shop, ensuring we have appropriate gift wrap. (Shoppers could do this during nights and weekends. Mid-Oct. through Mid – Dec.)
Hospitality
Committee responsible for coordinating and providing refreshments for approximately 6-8 school events per year.
Ice Cream Social
Held during the spring book fair, ice cream is given to the students of the school and sold to others for a small fee. Chairpersons needed to arrange for ice cream donation and volunteers for the night of the event. (March)
Movie Night
A family night at the school where a movie is shown and you are able to purchase popcorn and refreshments. Chairperson is responsible for selecting movie and purchasing refreshments, Volunteers are needed for the night of. (2 to 4 events throughout the year)
Original Works
Program allows children’s art work to be turned into unique gifts. Chairperson will be responsible for coordinating the collection of art and fees and distributing the gifts. (October - November)
Pizza Night / Game Night
This annual event is a fun community event. Pizza and other food are donated by Pepperoni Express and local Stop and Shops. Chairperson is responsible for coordinating volunteers, set-up for the event and purchasing necessary food items. Game Night will be held at the same time in the gymnasium. Children and families will be able to try out some fun family games and purchase them that night. (November)
Planting
This committee is responsible for helping weed, spread mulch and plant flowers usually in the Fall and Spring. (September & May)
Publicity
This committee is responsible for submitting all news worthy events, etc. to local newspapers and community websites. Also, helping with signage for special events. (Yearly commitment)
Santa’s Breakfast
This annual pancake breakfast event is held the first Saturday in December and is a joint effort with the Lions Club. Chairperson is responsible for coordinating volunteers, set-up for the event and purchasing necessary food items. (November / December)
Sweatshirts / T-Shirts
This committee is responsible to research and help design a tee-shirt or NGES offering, then rolling it out to the school community. (Fall)
Teacher Appreciation
A week of appreciation for the teachers and staff of NGES. (former teacher appreciation weeks include luncheons, breakfasts, teacher’s favorites and more…) Chairpersons coordinate teacher luncheon and other activities associated with Teacher Appreciation in May. (April - May)
Walk-A-Thon
Students will walk over a 3 day period at recess and gather sponsors to help support fitness in the children. This committee would help coordinate volunteers, help finalize themes, prizes, etc. (September)
Yearbook
Each year we offer yearbooks for the students of NGES. The committee needs assistance from parents taking photos, coordinating the art work, and the design of the overall yearbook. Chairpersons lead the design process and create the design online. This is a yearlong project.
