After School Enrichment Programs - Winter 2013
N.G.E.S. is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to assist with the After School Enrichment Programs.
Do you have a special talent or hobby? Please don't hold back, take a step forward and share your talents with our kindergarten and first grade students. Both teachers and assistants are
needed for the ASEP winter session which begins January 15, 2013. All classes must have a lead teacher and at least one assistant.
Our goal during the winter session is to offer a couple of new classes, Outdoor Adventures and Arts and Crafts Workshop. The Outdoor Adventures class would be held in the playground
area. Activities include: snowshoeing, constructing snowmen, building snow
forts, hiking in the woods, making snow ice cream treats, and designing magical snow art sculptures.
The children will need assistance with clothing and putting on their boots or snow shoes. In the event of a snowless winter, providing the weather is not frigid, the kids will still be brought
outside for hikes, exercise and games (tag, soccer, parachute, dodgeball etc) Another class of interest would be an Arts and Crafts Workshop. This creative class will be offered to young artists who enjoy design and fine motor skills projects. Projects include painting, clay, drawing, cutting,
collage, puppets, and mixed media constructions. Class will be formatted with several tables arranged with different projects for children to work on. As a lead instructor you will need to create different weekly art projects. The children will be kept very busy by visiting each art "station". For example,
table 1 would be set up with glue, tissue paper, glitter and construction paper.
Table 2 arranged with Play-Doh and Play-Doh equipment, ie rolling pins, molds,
cookie cutters, and cutting tools. Table 3 arranged with painting canvas and
watercolors. This purpose of the stations is to break the kids into small
groups. Each group (4 children) will have 10 minutes to work on a project. The
object is to keep the children busy, focused and amused.
In order to offer these classes parent involvement is a necessity! Each class will meet one
day per week (Tuesday or Thursday) from 3:30-4:45 at NGES. The winter session
will run 5 weeks from 1/15/13-2/14/13. Any time you are generously willing to
share with the children will be greatly appreciated. The sooner your reply , the
speedier these classes can be organized.
